If you follow me on Twitter, then you will have seen my rugby related tweets recently, and it’s safe to say I am a big Rugby Union fan. Way back in September 2014, Bobby & I decided to make it our mission to attend a Rugby World Cup game this year whilst it was on home turf. We are both England fans but unfortunately the prices for tickets to their games were very high. We decided that we would go to see the reigning champs the All Blacks instead. When we got confirmation that we had been accepted for tickets we booked a night at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle not too far from St James Park where the match was to be held.
Off we trotted to Newcastle and found our way to the amazing Vermont hotel. You know the hotels good when outside is a Ferrari and a Rolls Royce, plus an official RWC 2015 Range rover and an Official All blacks minibus. We checked in and had a little chill before heading into Newcastle prior to the big game. We walked to the city centre where there were some amazing world food stalls and a MasterCard Priceless bus doing face paints and on the spot prizes.
We headed to the fanzone before going to the stadium and getting seated before the game kicked off. Check out our awesome signs we got ready for the game…
The stadium was packed with dedicated New Zealand fans as well as loads of people in support of Tonga. The Haka and Sipi Tau live were incredible (google if you have no idea what I am talking about). Our seats were amazing and we were a mere 6 rows from the pitch; better than we ever expected really. The game was the first professional rugby match that either Bobby or myself had ever been too and what a game to experience. The Tongan’s fought to the end but the All Blacks took the match brilliantly.
If you haven’t been to a game before then I would thoroughly recommend it, we now have our sights firmly set on the 6 nations next year.
