The Ultimate Wedding Checklist

As you all know, I got married earlier in the year & when it comes to planning a wedding, it is easy to let stress get on top of you. Sometimes it can be difficult to look forward to the day itself because you are so caught up in all of the minor details. That is why it is important to take a step back and evaluate the situation. Anything is possible; you just need to plan ahead. If you are wondering where to start, you will need to read on. Below is the ultimate wedding checklist.

Decide on a venue

In order to get your invites out on time, you will need to prioritise the selection of your venue. Make sure that you choose a location that you are truly in love with. You should be aiming for a venue that you are happy to remember for the rest of your life. If you are struggling for options, why not look online? This will make the process much simpler, as you will be able to filter your search results. Say you are trying to find wedding venues in Northamptonshire, there are plenty of incredible locations for you to choose from.

Select your refreshments

If you are going to show your guests a good time, it is vital that you have plenty of food and drink to offer them. Make sure that you attend tastings when you are making your decisions. This will save you from being disappointed on the big day. It will also help you to pair together your choices. Don’t be afraid to ask your loved ones for advice. Try to find someone who is especially picky, as this is a great way for you to be certain of honest feedback.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Venue

Nearly 1 year ago, Bob & I got engaged.

We knew we didn’t want a particularly long engagement and set a rough timescale to be married in the next 12-18months.

Then came the difficult part: deciding on a venue and one that wasn’t going to break the budget at that.

The first thing I would definitely do when looking at venues is have a budget in mind. It’s really easy to get caught up in the awe of venue hunting and not keeping the price at the forefront of your mind. We have paid for the wedding ourselves so we knew budget was important as well as it being the right location.

I ventured to a few venues myself to check them out but always brought Bob with me for a second look around. As much as he wasn’t bothered by wedding planning much at the early stages, Bob’s opinion mattered and it made me realise that the early venues weren’t the right ones.

We actually found our venue when Bob was golfing one day with his friend. He mentioned he was planning his wedding at the reception desk and the told him to have a look round and see what he thought. Needless to say he fell in love and immediately told me I would love it too. A few days later I took my mum to see the venue and we both admittedly fell in love.

Fast forward 12 months and we have the venue booked and the church down the road planned for our ceremony. It’s all fallen into place but not without some back and forth between the church – venue. There are some incredible venues out there depending on what you are looking for and definitely something for everyone. I stumbled upon One Events when looking for unique wedding venues and forgetting to narrow my search to Yorkshire rather than nationwide. They offer some truly beautiful venues for weddings and could definitely make your day even more special.

If you’re in the middle of looking for the venue then good luck finding your dream wedding destination.

Where I’m at with the wedding planning

For those of you that don’t know, I got engaged on Easter Sunday this year. My now fiance proposed almost 8 years after meeting me and about time right?

Pretty much straight away we decided to get married in around a years time and started looking at venues to try to find the perfect one. After umming and ahhing my fiance went to play golf at a manor house outside of York and decided that it was the one. A couple of days later I popped to the venue myself with my mum in tow and agreed unanimously it was the ONE!

We also popped into the church along the road and pretty much made the decision without the fiance’s input, that it was going to be a church ceremony. (We had discussed this already and knew it was something we would love to do) Photo below of my mum posing at the end of the aisle!

After that we bought our house and wedding planning took a backseat really with only a couple of bits here or there getting sorted:

  • We chose the florist and had a good idea of colours and flowers we liked.
  • We asked our groomsmen/bridesmaids to be a part of the big day.

Then we had a chill for a bit….

But now wedding planning is full steam ahead with only around 6 months to go to the big day. We are about to embark on attending church for the next 6 months as part of the agreement to be allowed to marry there.

We are sending out invites etc as we speak with evening invites to go out a bit later.

The Dress is CHOSEN!!! but some fitting is required which will be started in the new year.

Bridesmaids dresses/suits are on the agenda for the new year.

Everyone has been booking accommodation at the venue which is fab and means lots of people don’t have to book taxi’s etc home especially when lots of them are travelling pretty far.

Centerpieces and table plan outline is sorted and won’t be finalised until table sizes/numbers are decided closer to the time.

Hair is booked and makeup is hopefully getting booked soon.

And it finally feels as though we are getting somewhere after months of worrying about getting on top of it all.

Lots of people I know who are married, loved the choosing and planning elements but I’ve not been particularly enthused really. The dress shopping was fun and I’m in love with what I’ve chosen but other than that I feel as though everything else is a tick-list exercise.

So fellow brides-to-be or future brides-to-be, don’t be worried that you don’t get excited about it all, I think it’s pretty ok not to be!

I will be checking in again a bit closer to the time with another update so keep your eyes peeled and let me know in the comments if you are blogging about your wedding/wedding planning so I can have a read.
