My Guide to Making the Most of Your Eyebrows

Whether you were born with brows like supermodel Cara Delevingne or not, you need to know the tips in this guide to make the most of your brows. You can incorporate them when doing your makeup to make them look that bit more defined, and frame your face as a result. As you can see from my below picture, I love my bushy brows but god are they unruly! Check these tips out and see what you think:

Conceal and Highlight Around the Area

Conceal and highlight around the brow area to make your eyebrows stand out even more. This is perfect for when you’ve created the perfect shape and you want to show them off. Simply use a brush to outline the brows in concealer, then a sponge to blend. You can then dot on the highlight with your finger. Just make sure that the colours you use aren’t too light. You don’t want to be able to see the outline around your brows. They should be blended just enough.

Brush Through Before Applying Makeup

Before you apply powder, pencil or gel to your brows, you should brush through. This will get rid of stray hairs, tidy them up, and will loosen any debris. Brush upwards to make your brows look tidier. This can also enhance your cheekbones, believe it or not, if you have fairly bushy brows.

Buy a Brow Brush

Buy a brow brush to fill in your brows. You can use these brushes with powder and gel, making them a great investment.

Outline

When outlining your brow, you should use your pencil or your brush and chosen product. Outline underneath the brow then the top of the brow, creating the shape you want in the process. This might take a little practice. Make sure you use product sparingly so your brows don’t end up too ‘in your face’. If you were born with good brows, you may not need to outline. Practice and see what works best for you.  

Mimic Hair Strokes

When filling in the brows, you should mimic hair strokes to make them look as natural as possible. You can then brush through again to soften them up even more. Products like Toppik can actually add realistic hair fibres.

Use the Right Colour

Choosing the right colour is really important. If you have blonde hair, you don’t want dark brown brows. You should pick the lightest colour. Your brows should only ever be slightly darker than the hair on your head. You can even have your brows tinted so you don’t need to apply as much makeup. Some places will dye them lighter for you, but it’s rare.

Use a Brow Gel

A brow gel is great for a quick tidy up, and will work wonders for those who have naturally thick and good brows. Simply brush through and you’ll notice a world of difference.

These tips will always help you to make the most of your eyebrows. In some cases, you can make them the star of the show! You won’t need OTT eye makeup if you’re playing up your brows. Have fun experimenting and hopefully you will have power brows asap!

My Favourite Ways To Relax

I don’t think anybody realises just how important relaxing actually is. You might think of it as wasting time or doing nothing, but you’re actually taking important time to yourself to recuperate, re-energise, and de-stress. There are so many benefits of relaxing, you should take some time to yourself to do it every day. Here are some of my favourite ways to relax to inspire you:

Meditate/Yoga

Some people laugh at meditation or Yoga, but it can actually be so beneficial when you practice it every day. Every day for 10-20 minutes is all you need to start reaping the benefits in your life. Not only will you feel more relaxed and calm in general, you should feel more alert. You’ll be able to overcome problems better, and you’ll feel more able to live in the present moment. There are apps, books, and all kinds of other resources to help you. Try it for a minimum of 10 days and you should notice a big difference!

Read a Book

Reading is something people need to do more of. It doesn’t matter whether you like to read self-help books, or whether you prefer to get lost in a story. Reading a book is the perfect way to relax and take some time to yourself. Find a comfortable space, make yourself a drink, and get reading! Sometimes I lose track of time this way and have managed to read a book in 2 days before. That’s when you know you’re having a good time!

Indulge in Hobbies

Everybody has their own unique hobbies that they like to practice, so make sure you take time to do yours. This might be writing a journal, blogging, or drawing. Anything! If you can get lost in it and you enjoy doing it, it should help you to relax. Don’t find time for it; make time for it! What is life if we’re not doing the things we love?

Take a Dip

What can be better than taking a dip when you’re feeling stressed? You can do this in a nice hot bath, or you can use a lazy spa depending on your preference. This is a great time for you to relax, reflect, and get out feeling like a new person. I still live at home and have tried to suggest a Jacuzzi before, the answer was NO! haha it may be a must for when I buy my own place.

Listen to Music

Music has a powerful effect on the human brain. Our subconscious absorbs everything we hear, even if we don’t know it. Listening to music full of swearing and nasty lyrics might be enjoyable for a while, but it might not be putting you in the best of moods. Try listening to more relaxing tunes and see how you feel afterwards. Make a playlist and have it on in the background while you work or get other chores done. I love having Spotify on and listening to my favourite songs.

Get Some Exercise

Exercise is one of the very best methods for relaxing. You’ll get an instant hit of endorphins while you’re doing your workout, which helps you to relax straight away and feel happier. Not only that, the longer you keep it up, the better you’ll feel in general. Your confidence will increase, you’ll become healthier, and you’ll live longer. It really is a no brainer when it comes to exercise!

Catch Up With Friends

Spending time with your loved ones shouldn’t be taken for granted. You might think they’re not going anywhere, but life is full of surprises. You could be here one minute and then gone the next. Make sure you appreciate them while they’re here and make the most of spending time with them. Even if you visit for a short coffee and a chat, it’s better than nothing. You may live to regret it if you don’t make more of an effort, and it’ll help take your mind off other areas of your life! It’s always good to have an ear to chew (metaphorically speaking).

Treat Yourself

It’s called retail therapy for a reason! Why not treat yourself? Don’t get me wrong, you shouldn’t get into the habit of spending lots of money when you feel low. That’s how debt is created. However, sometimes it can be nice to treat yourself. You could even treat yourself to a relaxing massage or facial; something that will leave you feeling fantastic afterwards.

I hope you like my favourite ways to relax and they help you to get some head space. Remember, worrying is a wasted emotion, and you can choose the way you feel. Just feel happy for no reason and you’ll love the results!

Buying our 1st Home….

Eeeek, So Bob and I are buying our first home together and are in the midst of the process as we speak. But who knew it can be such a faff! Nobody warns you apart from constantly telling you how much money it will cost you, and you pretty much know that already. So I thought I would create a little list of things that you will need to know before taking the big step onto the property ladder.

1. The obvious thing is make sure you not only have enough of a deposit but factor in the solicitors costs as well and stamp duty. Now the rules have changed with stamp duty following last weeks statement which is fab news for us 1st time buyers. Have a look at Martin lewis’ calculator for a guide to what you will pay now.

2. Be prepared to chase the estate agents and the solicitors AND the surveyor. If you opt for a full engineers survey as some do depending on the age of the property then be ready to fire off emails and calls as and when needed. As beware, they don’t move that quickly unless pushed.

3. Read and Re-read every bit of info you get from everyone involved including your mortgage provider, as you won’t take it all in. It’s handy if you know someone who can look through it with you and explain anything worded strangely, and believe me it’s hard to understand some of it.

4. Make note of the little things you will need like toilet brush! I know it sounds daft but you will forget stuff like this. Thank goodness for our families who keep us on track and don’t let us get carried away.

5. Get a file and keep everything organised because on numerous occasions i have had to dig out something for reference and struggled to find it. Still am really so its my mission to get organised this weekend.

6. Don’t think every house you see on the website is perfect. There have been several times we have seen a “dressed up” house but when we have looked round, we have found the faults.

7. Same goes for a house that looks like it needs work. How much work will it need? and what would be the cost? Although the idea of getting to do it up yourself sounds like an amazing project, is it realistic?!

8. and finally, Do you walk in and think “I can see myself living here”? If it feels like home then the chances are in you heart, its already won you over. Go with it and don’t be scared.
