Taking advantage of the Garden

It’s been absolutely stunning weather of late and despite being 6 months pregnant, I’ve tried to take advantage of the nice weather and get in the garden. We are super lucky to have inherited a beautiful garden when we bought the house last year and have made sure we’ve kept up with maintenance as not to ruin the aesthetic.

Now we’re into summer time and spending more time in the garden with friends round the BBQ, it’s got me thinking about how to make the garden more of our own instead of inheriting it from someone else.

We’ve planted a lot of new flowers and moved some bulbs round to fit our liking and don’t worry those ball shrubs in the picture have grown back in volume and look beautiful.

We also inherited some garden furniture when we moved in which was fantastic as it was summer when we got the keys but now I think it’s time to start looking at new furniture that suits us a bit more.

I’ve used Fishpools before when browsing and buying homeware/garden accessories so immediately I thought about them when getting some inspiration. One of my favourite garden looks is Rattan furniture and they have a fantastic range of dining sets on offer; meaning plenty to choose from.

My 2 favourite sets that they do are:

Margarita Round Rattan table with 4 chairs in grey

Margarita Grey Rattan Sofa Dining Set with Ice Bucket

You can get bigger dining sets than these but as much as our garden is large with a big grass/plant area, the patio is not huge and we have a BBQ so we wouldn’t want anything that took up too much room.

As well as Rattan furniture dining sets, they also sell a range of garden accessories, lighting, daybeds, sun loungers and parasols. You can literally get everything you should need for your garden in one place.

Due to baby Moore arriving in 4 months time, the urge to spend money on the garden may have to take a backseat until next summer now but this site will be the first place I go to when planning to spend.

Shoes to see you into Summer

Now the weather has finally picked up a bit, it’s time to move my usual trainers and brogues to the back of the wardrobe to make room for pretty sandals and more open shoes.

The fact that I’m pregnant has added to the need for comfier shoes so getting to shop for new shoes has been a lovely treat for my feet. I have picked 3 very different styles of shoes from Simply Be that I’ve chosen as my perfect shoes to transition into the nicer weather.

1. Sole Diva Tassel Loafers – £25

These are perfect for the office or work and what makes them even better is the fact they are wide fit. I chose black because it’s a colour that will go with most outfits especially with office wear.

2. Sole Diva Pom Pom Sandals – £28.00

These are my absolute favourite sandals I think I’ve ever owned. They look incredible on and would be great paired with a white summer dress. Hubby is not a fan of them but who cares – I love them!

3. Sole Diva ruffle Ballerina shoes – £18.00

Again I chose this pair because they work with jeans or office wear and once again they are wide fit – perfect for what could be some very swollen tootsies going forward.

I am always spoilt for choice when choosing items from Simply Be and after seeing advertising on the television so much, it made me more aware of some of the brands they sell on their site. If you are on the lookout for some new sandals/shoes or even wedges for summer then check them out.

My Summer Beauty Favourites

It’s no secret that I love beauty and skincare, and I’m always on the lookout to try new products especially during the summer months. If you’re like me, your skin goes all different kinds of crazy during the hotter months and I try to limit the amount of products I use when on holidays.

When we jetted off to Lanzarote this year, I was determined to use minimal products on my skin and try to give it a bit of detox for a change. I chose 5 of my favourite products to share with you and inspire you to maybe try some new things out yourself.

Processed with Snapseed.

From the left is 2 beauties from Dermalogica: The Solar Defense Booster SPF 30 and the Solar Shield SPF15. These two are a godsend on holidays and in hot weather in general. We used the Solar Shield on our nose and lips during prime heat of the day and also incorporated the Defense Booster into moisturiser and used it mostly around the face and hairline. These are not replacement products for sun care so we merely used them on top of our normal products, however they smell great and don’t leave you feeling sticky or coated which is great. We will definitely be buying them again in future.

Next up is the SBC Aloe Vera Gel which is my favourite type of aftersun product. The lovely folks at SBC sent me this last year to test out with another of their products after posting a review about 2 of their other gel products a friend gave me. I love this range and find the gel products are the best on the market. The Aloe Gel is great for cooling in the fridge and then slathering on after being in the sun/heat. Just like the Dermalogica products, I will definitely buy this again.

When it came to moisturiser, there was only one choice this summer, in the form of Caudalie moisturising sorbet. This beautiful moisturiser is exactly like a sorbet and just melts away into the skin. It’s not thick or too heavy which is perfect for summer and smells lovely and floral. It also acts as a great primer before putting any concealer or foundation on.

Last but by no means least is Girl Meets Pearl from Benefit. I know, I know, I’m stupidly late for the Benefit train but I honestly never bothered with the brand before. I was lucky enough to win a little set and this was in it so I gave it a go. I love highlighter but on holiday I’d rather not cake myself in powder of any fashion. This gorgeous pearl glow is great for dabbing onto cheekbones and letting it shine away. I will most definitely purchase a full size version in the future.

Hope you enjoyed reading, let me know in the comments if there’s any other summer products you wear by and I should check out.
