Better late than never, I’m finally getting round to writing up the August Empties post now that we are 2 weeks into the month. Shameful beauty blogger eh?!
Anyway as I’m writing this, it’s a sunny but freezing day and I’m officially 37 weeks pregnant. I love writing my empties post’s as it’s always fun to see how much I’ve managed to clear out that month but also to share my thoughts on different products I’ve used. In August I used up an outstanding 8 products ranging from skincare to body care and it’s now time to share my thoughts.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I’ve been trying to use up all my products at home before spending any unnecessary money on myself whilst we save for Baby Moore’s arrival in October. We may only be 19 days into the month but I have used up a whopping 10 products this month and wanted to share some of my thoughts with you.
First up… Hair:
I used up a firm favourite of mine which is Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner, it’s that much of a favourite there’s another 2 bottles in the cupboard! I love this product as it always re-hydrates my hair when it’s feeling a little dry/frazzled.
Next up… Facial care:
I finished a couple of travel size products from Dermalogica; the special cleansing gel and the multi-active toner. I used these products on the run up to my wedding and they contributed a lot to my clearer skin on the big day. I will definitely be re-purchasing these products once I’ve bought everything I need for baby as they work wonders for my sensitive, spot-prone skin.
I also used up the Beauty Kitchen Abyssinian facial concentrate which has again helped my hormonal skin over recent months. I used to steer clear of oils on my face because I was always under the impression I had greasy skin. Now I’m older and wiser to skin care I appreciate that my skin needs moisture more than anything and oil based products like this are fantastic at giving you that result.
Now onto Body Care:
I used up a gigantic tub of SBC Rose and Argan Oil Body Butter which smells absolutely incredible. Trying to look after my body with limited funds has been a worry of mine but this product lasted me a decent amount of time for the size of the tub on offer. It really leaves the skin soft and supple but with a gorgeous floral smell that lingers afterwards. I have another tub of the aloe vera body butter in the cupboard ready to use as I love this brand so much.
I also started looking after my body with body scrubs more in the second trimester and the Evolve Tropical Blossom Body Polish has been a winner for me. This scrub looks like sugar in the jar and just require rubbing into the skin. You then add water to turn it into a milky texture and rub any remainder into the skin. I love that it’s not too harsh and melts away almost when water is added. I also used up a little jar of Tropical Blossom Body Butter which absorbs into the skin quite well and has a sorbet style feel to it. I don’t think I would buy this again as it felt a little oily on the skin after and as though it hadn’t fully absorbed.
I also used up my favourite roll-on deodorant Nivea Invisible Black & White. I always have a stock of these in the cupboard as spray on deodorants have given me problems in the past. I love how gentle this is on my skin and the fact that it never leaves marks on my clothing is another plus. I also finished off Dirty Works Coconut body wash which smells and feels incredible. As far as coconut scented products go, this is one of my absolute favourites as it has a gorgeous sweet scent to it.
Lastly I used up Soap & Glory Girligo Body Mist. I used this as another moisturiser in effect as it has a great smell and if I’m really honest; I needed to use it up. As a moisturiser it doesn’t leave my skin feeling hydrated for long but as a mist for quick spritz, it has a lovely smell and does have the desired short-term effect.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the first in a long time of full empties posts on the blog. I love getting back to some of my roots and this was always a post I loved doing when I was well into my beauty writing. I will be sharing some more pregnancy specific posts soon so please keep your eyes peeled.
Back in July, I wrote about my skin care heroes, and wrote about my love for SBC gels. A few months ago I suffered the most wonderful reaction on my face to a product I had been using. I say this with the most sarcasm possible and hopefully it is coming through in my typing. My manager at work is a big fan of QVC and had discovered SBC gels and swore by the products, so much so that her daughters both used them too and loved them as well. She brought me in 2 bottles of the gels; the Collagen and the Propolis and promised they would sort my face right out.
She was not wrong. After a couple of days of using the products my face was calmer and even less spotty which is always a huge plus. I have continued to use the products as a staple in my skin care routine and would be a bit lost without them really. After writing the post in July, the lovely people at SBC gels themselves got in touch asking if I would like to try out any of their other products. I had been dying to try out the Aloe gel so this was top of my list, and they then threw in a massive tub of their new Rose & Argan Oil Body Butter.
I have been using both of the products now for a few weeks and absolutely love both of them. I am not saying it just because SBC gels sent them for me to try. They are genuinely both great products. The Aloe gel is brilliant for sensitive skin and soothing angry or even sunburnt skin. I have been using it on my skin if I have a flare up of spots as it has great healing properties. This would be perfect on holiday and just keep it in the fridge to give your skin a soothing gel after being in the sun.
The Rose & Argan Oil o butter is sumptuous and smells amazing. I am normally not a great lover for the smell of roses but this is lovely and leaves your skin smelling gorgeous and a lovely silky feel. This probably comes from the Argan Oil aspect of the body butter. I use this all the time and will be sad when I eventually finish the tub. It’s a huge tub so it might take a while to use up. (here’s hoping)
I would definitely recommend any of the 4 products I have tried so far. I intend to buy some more of their other ranges in the future and share my thoughts with you but for now, I hope you found this post helpful.
Thanks for reading
*I received 2 of these products to review, but all thoughts are my own.
