July Empties

It’s that time again…. time to share my monthly empties but where the heck has this month gone?

I’ve been super busy moving into our first home and spending endless weekends furniture shopping, cleaning, painting you name it. I’m looking forward to finally being finished and just being able to chill and have a slob day as I like to call it.

But not to neglect my blog, I thought I’d best share the mountain of products I seemed to finish in the last 30 days.

100

Let’s talk about the face first.

I used up 4 different skincare related products this month including: Merumaya Melting Cleansing balm, SBC Propolis Gel, Clearasil 5 in 1 exfoliating scrub and Garnier Micellar extra gentle wipes.

Now instead of putting a paragraph about each on here, I want to share the pros and cons with you so you don’t get bored reading a big review instead.

Merumaya Cleansing Balm –

  • Makes you look a little strange when it’s slathered on your face
  • Doesn’t sting or hurt your eyes
  • Cleanses and wipes away your makeup without scrubbing

I give this product 4/5

SBC Propolis Gel –

  • Does feel sticky but once it sets, leaves nothing on the skin
  • Soothes and helps the skin recover and heal
  • Is gentle and cooling when put on the skin

I give this product 5/5

Clearasil 5 in 1 exfoliating Scrub –

  • Is a little strong for super sensitive skin like mine
  • Felt a bit harsh when rubbing onto my skin
  • Didn’t have an impact after 10 days of usage therefore put me off continued usage

I give this product 1/5

Garnier Micellar Extra gentle Wipes –

  • Super gentle taking make up off
  • Lovely scent to the wipes
  • Only one swipe on the skin required to remove even harder makeup like mascara

I give this product 4.5/5

Next up is 3 non skincare based products including Wilko Cocoa Butter, Radox Coconut Body Wash and Arm & Hammer Advanced White.

Wilko Cocoa Butter –

  • Super intense hydration
  • The best body lotion I’ve used in a long time
  • A must have for a skin breakout or dry skin patch as it hydrates and leaves your skin feeling soothed.

I give this product a well deserved 5/5

Radox Coconut Kiss body wash –

  • The best coconut smell that’s smelt genuine and not sickly
  • Nourishing and hydrating
  • Leaves your skin soft and supple and smelling like summer

I give this product another 5/5

Arm & Hammer Advance White toothpaste –

  • Like all arm & hammer products, it’s taste leave something to be desired
  • It’s fast acting and after a couple of weeks, whiteness is apparent
  • has results unlike a lot of other whitening toothpaste.

I give this product 4/5

Now I hope you’ve enjoyed my monthly summary of the empties. I get bored reading huge long reviews myself and only want the summary sometimes so I thought I’d try it out myself and let me know if you have any thoughts about my newest writing style.

Empties: The Holiday Edition

I hate neglecting my blog but having an almost 4 week break recently really gave me a refresh and the much-needed chance to go away for 2 weeks with the fiance.

On June 15th Rob & I jetted off to beautiful Lanzarote for 2 incredible weeks of good food, amazing weather and a well deserved relax from all our recent house buying stresses. I did miss my little blog but got some amazing photos and had some fantastic experiences that have given me some enthusiasm for some new posts.

I’m kicking off this week with the monthly empties post: holiday edition. That is correct peeps, I’m rounding up the products we used on our jollies and what I actually thought about them.

075

Starting from the left, my go to Factor 50 in sunscreen is Garnier Ambre Solaire for Kids. Yup, I use a kids sunscreen because I’m pale and freckly meaning the sun can be my enemy. I have always used Factor 50 and rarely stray much lower if I’m honest. This spray is easy to use and rubs in well into the skin. I hate the sprays that leave you with a white consistency or very obvious marks on the skin and this one does not disappoint. I did notice that after topping it up a few times on one particular sunny afternoon, I did get a slight mark or two but I kind of expect that with white sunscreen and it did rub away easily anyway.

For aftersun one of my favourites is Soltan Moisturising aftersun spray from Boots. This spray offers moisturised skin for up to 12 hours and does what it says on the bottle. I’ve bought this one for a couple of years now and definitely will keep buying it as its non-sticky, non-greasy and doesn’t have a funny smell either. There is normally some great offers on at Boots so you can usually grab these on a bargain offer at the right time of year as well.

Now on to Rob’s sunscreen of choice this year and it was Riemann P20 factor 30 once a day protection. This was a new one for us both this year as neither of us have used it before. The great thing about this spray is that it goes on clear and dries into the skin super quick. I loved that it wasn’t greasy and had virtually no odour to it either. I will definitely keep an eye out for this product on offer on the build up to the next holiday but a bit higher factor for me compared to Rob I think.

Now we turn to body wash, and since we would be going somewhere hot and it was prime time for summer sun, I chose the fruity scent of Original Source Mango body wash. The smell of this wash was incredible and perfect for the sunny weather we were enjoying in Lanzarote. I love original source products as they always smell awesome and this doesn’t disappoint. Definitely purchase this if you are going away, it’s the perfect choice.

Now let’s talk about bug bites. Yes it’s not a nice subject but whilst in Mexico 2 years ago, we discovered the best solution to bug bites in Fast Aid Plus Emulsion. Now we haven’t found it ever again and it probably was only available in Mexico, but it had a great cooling effect on the skin and reduced swelling/redness really quickly, helping to heal the bite much better. If we ever head back to Mexico again, this will be the top of our purchase list whilst out there. The best thing is that it has a long expiration meaning it lasted until this years holiday anyway.

Finally on our hair, we used a shampoo and conditioner from the Schwarzkopf Gliss  Total Repair range. These were both fab and I purchased them from Poundland as a last-minute buy before we travelled. I didn’t want anything huge in size or heavy to put in the case so these are perfect. The bottles are light and the range is great for fighting frizz and flyaway hair; perfect for humid conditions. I will definitely rebuy these in future for holidays as they work perfectly and didn’t mess with my sensitive scalp at all.

Hope you liked my holiday empties but keep your eyes peeled for my holiday blog posts coming soon.

Haircare Products

OMG I feel like I haven’t written anything in ages. I know a post went live earlier this week but I was suffering extreme jet lag and if I’m honest, it was not well written at all. Alas, I am back with a bang, I snapped some photos when the light was permitting and I’m ready to get back on the blogging train (which would be amazing if it was real, am I right?). I thought I would start by sharing the hair care products I am currently using and my thoughts on them.

003

As you can see, I don’t use a great deal of product on my hair apart from the odd scoosh of Batiste to sort my hair out when it’s one of those days. I have never been much of a product user and I definitely hate overloading my hair stuff but I have a few products to try out in the next few months and I can’t wait to share them with you.

First up I use a really cheap and cheerful shampoo from none other than Aldi. I get greasy hair and absolutely fight with shampoos to find one that works for me. This one is probably Aldi’s attempt at Head & Shoulders and smells virtually the same as their similar product as well. The consistency of the shampoo however is very different and is a lot runnier meaning you don’t need much to lather up your hair. I always find the Head & Shoulders one a bit too thick so this one suits my hair a lot more. I can’t remember the price because I’ve had it about 3-4 months now but it was under £1.00 possibly so an absolute bargain. Overall it leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean and I would buy it again.

Next up is Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo, which I actually got from my auntie whilst in New Zealand. I have ombre hair so I don’t require a lot of blond toning however it can get a bit yellowy at the bottom and I was starting to get concerned whilst on holiday. You don’t need a lot of this shampoo to get a good lather however rinse it from your hands quickly as the purple tones can leave your hands a bit stained. I used this every other day for a couple of weeks and definitely found it brightened the blonde in my hair and stopped it looking yellowy. The bottle says you don’t need to do it this often however I think it’s personal preference. I will keep using it however I won’t need to for a couple of months as I don’t want to dry out my hair.

Lastly I have been using Charles Worthington Straight & Smooth Conditioner to leave my hair silky smooth. This is a fab conditioner and definitely softens my hair especially the beaten up blonde bits at the bottom. I never condition the top of my hair only from the ear downwards as I find the top only gets greasy looking once conditioner is added. I really like this one in particular as it has a lovely smell however once it’s finished I will be testing out something new and sharing my thoughts on that one.

I hope you enjoyed my little hair care post, keep your eyes peeled for lots more beauty posts and a travel one or two coming your way in the next few weeks.

Thanks for reading
