July Empties

Another month has passed and I am ever closer to popping out my first child. This means another round-up of empty products and trying not to spend spare money on beauty products I don’t need. July has seen me use up 9 products and the strict no spending on beauty products is going well. The only thing the restriction on spending doesn’t include is foundation/concealer as I really can’t do without this.

Haircare

This month I only used up 1 hair product; Dermalogica’s daily conditioning rinse. Does anyone ever find they use up the conditioner way quicker than the coordinating shampoo? This conditioner is great but long-term, I don’t think it will be a product I will purchase again. I have a really sensitive scalp and although this product was gentle, it didn’t really deal with the problem as well as other conditioners I have used.

Face

I’ve loved the Body Shop’s Tea Tree products since trying them a couple of years ago and purchased this cool and creamy face when my skin was at its worst. They no longer sell this particular product however the rest of their range is fantastic and I’ve found all the facial wash products have helped in the same way. This is always going to stay on my re-purchase list.

When it comes to toner, I’ve finished up my Simple Kind to Skin Soothing Toner¬†which has been a godsend. This product massively helped me calm my skin on the run up to my wedding this year and with uber hormonal pregnant skin, it still helps to calm my skin now. A definite recommendation if you’re looking for a new toner.

I’ve also finished up my Proactiv+ Skin Purifying Mask which I received as part of the full Proactiv 3 step system. This mask is great and when washed off, provides a gentle scrub to the skin to remove any dead skin or bacteria. I own a shed load of masks so I won’t be repurchasing this one in the close future but I would definitely use it again in future.

Body

Firstly I used up a couple of Happy Jackson products that I received as part of a Christmas gift. These are fab and I absolutely love their body care but unfortunately I have no idea where they were bought from so am struggling to re-purchase. If anyone has seen them, please leave me a comment as I’m desperate to re-buy.

I also used up my huge tub of Sugar Crush Body buttercream from Soap & Glory. This range is one of my favourites from this brand as I love the scent. This buttercream is fab and has been a saviour at looking after my skin during pregnancy.

I also had a sample tub of Sleepy by Lush from a recent blog event and it has been one of my absolutely favourite offerings from them so far. It was great for helping me to relax before bed and trying to get a better night’s sleep. The scent of this body lotion is especially soothing and calming which is perfect now I’m in my last trimester.

Lastly I used up my bottle of The Body Shop frosted plum body wash which is part of their Christmas range. I like this product but prefer the glazed apple which smells amazing.

Stay tuned for my next edition of Empties in August when I will try to tackle even more of my hoard of products before the arrival of Baby Moore.

Pinching the Pennies During Pregnancy

I’m just over 5.5 months pregnant now and boy has it flown by. As we’ve now surpassed the halfway mark, Bob and I have been thinking about our finances and it made me decide to do a series of penny-pinching posts for pregnant ladies out there.

I’m kicking it off with a major pregnant lady pain: fighting stretch-marks and body care.

I’m a beauty hoarder by nature so my stash of products at home is somewhat insane. Rather than running out to purchase all those products that are labelled “Stretch-Mark Fighting”, I have made it my mission to use all my products up first before spending money unnecessarily. This includes using skincare or face care products up as well before spending more money.

It’s easy to get sucked into buying oodles of products that say they are stretch mark fighting and don’t get me wrong, I’ve bought a couple at the start of my pregnancy. What they don’t tell you is that you should be applying this stuff 2-3 times a day and at that rate, you are working through a bottle/tub a week! Who has that kind of money?

I made the decision to just use what I have at home first which includes several tubs of body butters and body lotions that all promote healthy, supple skin. I’ve been using these twice a day as advised and so far so good in terms of my skin looking and feeling great.

I’m going to keep sharing the progress of my skin journey as I know there will be lots of mums-to-be out there who share the same worries when it comes to combatting stretch marks.

This is the first in the series of penny-pinching posts during pregnancy and coming up we will share a before and after of our nursery as we decorate it without breaking the bank, ways to cut back on spending and bargain buys for baby.

I hope you find the series useful and I would love to read your comments if you do.
