My birthday is around 3 weeks away and I thought it high time I create a birthday wish list that family reading my blog (I know who you are!) can use to get some ideas.
With everything being wedding and then baby related this year, I almost forgot it was getting nearer to my birthday when I turn 27 and the reality of becoming a mother 4 weeks later sets in!!
Here are some of the things on the top of my wish list this year to help those of you buying me gifts (haha).
The Sims 4 // Dermalogica Clear Start Kit // Yorkshire Soap Company Bath Bombs
UGG Slippers (size 5)
Ban.do Diary // Joules Waterproof Jacket // Warehouse Leather Jacket
I mentioned in an earlier post that I’ve been trying to use up all my products at home before spending any unnecessary money on myself whilst we save for Baby Moore’s arrival in October. We may only be 19 days into the month but I have used up a whopping 10 products this month and wanted to share some of my thoughts with you.
First up… Hair:
I used up a firm favourite of mine which is Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner, it’s that much of a favourite there’s another 2 bottles in the cupboard! I love this product as it always re-hydrates my hair when it’s feeling a little dry/frazzled.
Next up… Facial care:
I finished a couple of travel size products from Dermalogica; the special cleansing gel and the multi-active toner. I used these products on the run up to my wedding and they contributed a lot to my clearer skin on the big day. I will definitely be re-purchasing these products once I’ve bought everything I need for baby as they work wonders for my sensitive, spot-prone skin.
I also used up the Beauty Kitchen Abyssinian facial concentrate which has again helped my hormonal skin over recent months. I used to steer clear of oils on my face because I was always under the impression I had greasy skin. Now I’m older and wiser to skin care I appreciate that my skin needs moisture more than anything and oil based products like this are fantastic at giving you that result.
Now onto Body Care:
I used up a gigantic tub of SBC Rose and Argan Oil Body Butter which smells absolutely incredible. Trying to look after my body with limited funds has been a worry of mine but this product lasted me a decent amount of time for the size of the tub on offer. It really leaves the skin soft and supple but with a gorgeous floral smell that lingers afterwards. I have another tub of the aloe vera body butter in the cupboard ready to use as I love this brand so much.
I also started looking after my body with body scrubs more in the second trimester and the Evolve Tropical Blossom Body Polish has been a winner for me. This scrub looks like sugar in the jar and just require rubbing into the skin. You then add water to turn it into a milky texture and rub any remainder into the skin. I love that it’s not too harsh and melts away almost when water is added. I also used up a little jar of Tropical Blossom Body Butter which absorbs into the skin quite well and has a sorbet style feel to it. I don’t think I would buy this again as it felt a little oily on the skin after and as though it hadn’t fully absorbed.
I also used up my favourite roll-on deodorant Nivea Invisible Black & White. I always have a stock of these in the cupboard as spray on deodorants have given me problems in the past. I love how gentle this is on my skin and the fact that it never leaves marks on my clothing is another plus. I also finished off Dirty Works Coconut body wash which smells and feels incredible. As far as coconut scented products go, this is one of my absolute favourites as it has a gorgeous sweet scent to it.
Lastly I used up Soap & Glory Girligo Body Mist. I used this as another moisturiser in effect as it has a great smell and if I’m really honest; I needed to use it up. As a moisturiser it doesn’t leave my skin feeling hydrated for long but as a mist for quick spritz, it has a lovely smell and does have the desired short-term effect.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the first in a long time of full empties posts on the blog. I love getting back to some of my roots and this was always a post I loved doing when I was well into my beauty writing. I will be sharing some more pregnancy specific posts soon so please keep your eyes peeled.
It is now 7 days until I am a married lady and as I write this post, in exactly 7 days time we will all be sat down at the wedding breakfast enjoying some good food.
The last month has absolutely flown by and everyone is commenting on how the wedding has come round so quick in general. For the last 4 weeks however I have been trying to prep my body for the big day with a big focus on skin and hair.
One of the perks of pregnancy is that your hair and nails grow quicker and I have noticed this with my nails but my hair has decided to do whatever the heck it wants and resembles a shrub most of the time. Don’t get me wrong it’s got the length but sometimes it’s flat but full of static and others it’s like I’ve been dragged through a hedge. John Frieda luxurious volume products have been my go to lately and I’ve found that they’ve helped to tame my mane.
I’ve been using the 3 products above religiously for the past 4 weeks and can hand on heart say my hair definitely has a bit more volume in it. My hair is naturally wavy so unless I get some heat on there, it looks like a lion’s mane but I have definitely seen some improvement in the way it looks.
Now moving onto skin and this has become the bane of my life throughout my pregnancy so far. Hormones have launched a full-scale attack on my mug and spots have set up base. This has meant a complete overhaul of my skin care and even a couple of weeks break from using any products at all.
I decided to go back to using my Dermalogica favourites; the special cleansing gel and multi-active toner. These products have really helped to stop a mass eruption on my face but don’t get me wrong, I am still getting a few spots. These aren’t miracle products at the end of the day! I also added a light moisturiser to my routine: L’oreal Triple active anti shine. I’ve had this product in my stock for a few months and bought it in Wilkinsons on a whim one day but I do love how light it is on the skin and doesn’t feel greasy. It also does mattify the skin which is great for use as a primer before putting on your slap.
The downside of pregnancy is that your hormones are changing all the time so these products all might work at the minute but they may not continue to do so and a switch up may be needed again. For the minute though I am enjoying these products but hope that if you’re reading this and thinking you might give them a try, don’t forget nothing works miracles and it’s all about trial and error sometimes.
