Finding the Perfect Wedding Venue

Nearly 1 year ago, Bob & I got engaged.

We knew we didn’t want a particularly long engagement and set a rough timescale to be married in the next 12-18months.

Then came the difficult part: deciding on a venue and one that wasn’t going to break the budget at that.

The first thing I would definitely do when looking at venues is have a budget in mind. It’s really easy to get caught up in the awe of venue hunting and not keeping the price at the forefront of your mind. We have paid for the wedding ourselves so we knew budget was important as well as it being the right location.

I ventured to a few venues myself to check them out but always brought Bob with me for a second look around. As much as he wasn’t bothered by wedding planning much at the early stages, Bob’s opinion mattered and it made me realise that the early venues weren’t the right ones.

We actually found our venue when Bob was golfing one day with his friend. He mentioned he was planning his wedding at the reception desk and the told him to have a look round and see what he thought. Needless to say he fell in love and immediately told me I would love it too. A few days later I took my mum to see the venue and we both admittedly fell in love.

Fast forward 12 months and we have the venue booked and the church down the road planned for our ceremony. It’s all fallen into place but not without some back and forth between the church – venue. There are some incredible venues out there depending on what you are looking for and definitely something for everyone. I stumbled upon One Events when looking for unique wedding venues and forgetting to narrow my search to Yorkshire rather than nationwide. They offer some truly beautiful venues for weddings and could definitely make your day even more special.

If you’re in the middle of looking for the venue then good luck finding your dream wedding destination.

The Final Countdown

It is now the final countdown until D.Day….. Our wedding.

For those of you who don’t follow me on social media, my big day is May 20th the same day that Pippa Middleton is getting married. (I booked my wedding before she announced the date of hers, I’ll have you know)

We got engaged a year ago (Easter Sunday) and its been a whirlwind 12 months planning the wedding and deciding what it was we actually wanted. Now it’s almost here, I am thrilled with how everything has come together and am confident it will be exactly what we imagined.

It’s difficult not to get sucked into those perfect Instagram/Pinterest weddings you see online and when you finally realise they aren’t always realistic, you start to plan what’s right for you and not others.

Some of the useful items I’ve had along the way to help me plan the big day have been my Busy B Wedding Planner and Rock My Wedding by Charlotte O’Shea.

I would definitely recommend getting a planner of some sort as it reminds you of all the little details that really do become easily forgotten as you get into the swing of planning. This planner is fantastic as it has lots of different sections and asks for budgets and breakdowns of costs to help keep you on track. We have managed to cut costs in certain areas such as invites, tables decoration and the table plan itself. I can’t wait to share some of the photos from the big day and share my secrets to cutting wedding costs.

Rock My wedding started off as a blog back in 2009 and as a blogger myself, I found myself leaning towards wedding blogs for inspiration on real life weddings. This book is a great read and has some real life weddings in it as well as colour schemes, hairstyles, makeup, dresses and lots more. I will be keeping hold of this for any of my friends/family that get married in the future as I know they will love the inspiration it provides.

In 5 weeks time I will be a married lady and can’t wait for the day to arrive. Please stick with my blog as I share a few more tips and posts as will as photos from the big day when it gets here.

Counting down to becoming a Mrs

It is now less than 5 months away from the big day when I become a married lady and will have a husband; and stress is starting to set in. I get married the same day as Pippa Middleton but can I just point out… I booked mine first (she’s such a copycat).

To try to combat the stress of wedding planning, I’ve been pampering myself more and using schedules and checklists to keep myself on track. One of the best things I’ve done is get a Witwoobox: a monthly wedding box for brides. I’ll hold my hands up and admit that I’ve never actually had a subscription box before so my expectations were pretty much nada!

First impressions of the box was how pretty the illustration is on the outside and instantly made me feel all bridal and excited at the prospect of the big day looming. It was well packaged and made me really excited to see what was inside. When opened, I was not disappointed and received 5 fantastic items as well as a gorgeous canvas bag in the same design as the box and a great little magazine for wedding planning.

The products included: Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips, Grounded sweet orange Face Scrub, Nailsinc Gel Effect Nail Polish, a highlighter/bronzer duo from Mannakadar and a fab Spectrum brush. I had so much trying all the products out and flipping through my magazine which gave me some great ideas and inspiration for own big day.

I’ve even tucked the handy canvas bag into my handbag as it’s so useful nowadays to carry one around when shopping rather than paying 5p all the time for carriers.

Now the lowdown on subscription options:

Monthly Plan – 25.00 per box

3-Monthly Plan – £23.00 per box (billed upfront)

6-Monthly Plan – £20.00 per box (billed upfront)

Each box contains 5 luxury beauty products and includes free UK delivery.

I have to say for my 1st ever subscription box, I am over the moon. This box is incredible and has given me a boost to start planning the wedding again (I had a lull over Christmas). If you are a bride to be or a bridesmaid looking for a surprise for the bride, then I would definitely recommend purchasing one of these boxes. Even if you don’t go for a subscription, you can purchase the limited edition launch box like I received as a one-off making it an excellent gift.

Feel free to leave any comments in the box if you are in the midst of planning your own wedding, I’d love to chat to more brides-to-be and compare ideas.
