June Empties

I mentioned in an earlier post that I’ve been trying to use up all my products at home before spending any unnecessary money on myself whilst we save for Baby Moore’s arrival in October. We may only be 19 days into the month but I have used up a whopping 10 products this month and wanted to share some of my thoughts with you.

First up… Hair:

I used up a firm favourite of mine which is Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner, it’s that much of a favourite there’s another 2 bottles in the cupboard! I love this product as it always re-hydrates my hair when it’s feeling a little dry/frazzled.

Next up… Facial care:

I finished a couple of travel size products from Dermalogica; the special cleansing gel and the multi-active toner. I used these products on the run up to my wedding and they contributed a lot to my clearer skin on the big day. I will definitely be re-purchasing these products once I’ve bought everything I need for baby as they work wonders for my sensitive, spot-prone skin.

I also used up the Beauty Kitchen Abyssinian facial concentrate which has again helped my hormonal skin over recent months. I used to steer clear of oils on my face because I was always under the impression I had greasy skin. Now I’m older and wiser to skin care I appreciate that my skin needs moisture more than anything and oil based products like this are fantastic at giving you that result.

Now onto Body Care:

I used up a gigantic tub of SBC Rose and Argan Oil Body Butter which smells absolutely incredible. Trying to look after my body with limited funds has been a worry of mine but this product lasted me a decent amount of time for the size of the tub on offer. It really leaves the skin soft and supple but with a gorgeous floral smell that lingers afterwards. I have another tub of the aloe vera body butter in the cupboard ready to use as I love this brand so much.

I also started looking after my body with body scrubs more in the second trimester and the Evolve Tropical Blossom Body Polish has been a winner for me. This scrub looks like sugar in the jar and just require rubbing into the skin. You then add water to turn it into a milky texture and rub any remainder into the skin. I love that it’s not too harsh and melts away almost when water is added. I also used up a little jar of Tropical Blossom Body Butter which absorbs into the skin quite well and has a sorbet style feel to it. I don’t think I would buy this again as it felt a little oily on the skin after and as though it hadn’t fully absorbed.

I also used up my favourite roll-on deodorant Nivea Invisible Black & White. I always have a stock of these in the cupboard as spray on deodorants have given me problems in the past. I love how gentle this is on my skin and the fact that it never leaves marks on my clothing is another plus. I also finished off Dirty Works Coconut body wash which smells and feels incredible. As far as coconut scented products go, this is one of my absolute favourites as it has a gorgeous sweet scent to it.

Lastly I used up Soap & Glory Girligo Body Mist. I used this as another moisturiser in effect as it has a great smell and if I’m really honest; I needed to use it up. As a moisturiser it doesn’t leave my skin feeling hydrated for long but as a mist for quick spritz, it has a lovely smell and does have the desired short-term effect.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the first in a long time of full empties posts on the blog. I love getting back to some of my roots and this was always a post I loved doing when I was well into my beauty writing. I will be sharing some more pregnancy specific posts soon so please keep your eyes peeled.

Pinching the Pennies During Pregnancy

I’m just over 5.5 months pregnant now and boy has it flown by. As we’ve now surpassed the halfway mark, Bob and I have been thinking about our finances and it made me decide to do a series of penny-pinching posts for pregnant ladies out there.

I’m kicking it off with a major pregnant lady pain: fighting stretch-marks and body care.

I’m a beauty hoarder by nature so my stash of products at home is somewhat insane. Rather than running out to purchase all those products that are labelled “Stretch-Mark Fighting”, I have made it my mission to use all my products up first before spending money unnecessarily. This includes using skincare or face care products up as well before spending more money.

It’s easy to get sucked into buying oodles of products that say they are stretch mark fighting and don’t get me wrong, I’ve bought a couple at the start of my pregnancy. What they don’t tell you is that you should be applying this stuff 2-3 times a day and at that rate, you are working through a bottle/tub a week! Who has that kind of money?

I made the decision to just use what I have at home first which includes several tubs of body butters and body lotions that all promote healthy, supple skin. I’ve been using these twice a day as advised and so far so good in terms of my skin looking and feeling great.

I’m going to keep sharing the progress of my skin journey as I know there will be lots of mums-to-be out there who share the same worries when it comes to combatting stretch marks.

This is the first in the series of penny-pinching posts during pregnancy and coming up we will share a before and after of our nursery as we decorate it without breaking the bank, ways to cut back on spending and bargain buys for baby.

I hope you find the series useful and I would love to read your comments if you do.

May Empties

After not using up many products last month in my empties round-up, I was disappointed in myself to say the least. What the heck have I been doing all month? No worries though because I am back with a vengeance and ready to share May’s empties list and a round-up of 6 products to talk to you about.

Let’s start with the body and I’ve used up a full bottle of Right Guard Shower Oils Pink Jasmine. This is a great offering from Right Guard as it branches out more to the females out there and doesn’t feel like something aimed at just the sporty ladies of the world. The Oils part of the product leaves your skin feeling luxurious and soft and a gorgeous floral scent fills the bathroom when you use it. I like this product and have another one of their scents to try so keep your eyes peeled.

I also used up a smaller bottle of SBC Gels Collagen which has done amazing things for my skin over the last year. I am a huge fan of the gels as they just melt into your skin and nourish from deep down. The collagen helps to bring elasticity back into the skin but also repair cells and skin to keep it healthy looking. I would definitely recommend this product as a must have and there is always offers on QVC for the brand.

Continuing with the body segment, I’ve also finished a tub of Asda Multivitamins containing 70 tablets in each tub. This will last you just over 2 months and is well worth the money. I love multivitamins and definitely feel as though it contributes to better health and more energy so it’s something that will always be in my shopping basket. I also used up a Soft & Gentle 48 hour roll on deodorant. I love a roll on and always will as it leaves my underarms soft and stops any irritation after shaving. I always have a stash of different ones especially when they come up on offer as it’s difficult to know when you will run out.

Moving away from the body collection, I take you to my face. 2 products used up this month starting with Lush Angels on Bare Skin cleanser. Now this cleanser and I were bezzie mates when I started using it and then things got a little sour on the friendship front. My skin like my scalp, likes to get a little too used to things and stops cooperating with products which is rather annoying. My skin was really struggling about 2 weeks before I finished this and I actually had to switch it with another cleanser for a week to help calm it down. Once calmed, I started using it again and had no issues. It’s definitely worth the price and lasts a couple of months before expiring, but washing your face twice a day will definitely use it up anyway.

I also used up a sample size of Dermalogica’s Clear Start Matte Moisturiser which has been perfect to use as a primer. It does what it says on the label and mattifies any shine to your skin which makes it perfect for applying before your foundation. I have already purchased a full size version of this product and it’s a firm beauty staple in my routine now.

I hope you’ve like this little end to May, I have an insane amount of posts coming up soon and lots of exciting reviews coming your way so do keep your eyes peeled and feel free to leave me your links in the comments.
