Before Freya was born, we opted to buy a baby carrier knowing full well, I would love using it for walks sometimes over taking the travel system out and about. I was always a little wary about the idea of slings and wraps, so opted for a traditional baby wearing carrier instead. When I was offered the chance recently to try out the Soohu Sling from Diono, I was excited and intrigued to see if I preferred it to my usual baby wearing carrier.
In order to put it to the test, I tried it out during a family walk as well as in the garden to potter around at home. The 5 in 1 sling has a range of comfortable positions depending on the size of baby and how best the sling feels on you.
We swapped between two different styles of baby carry; the hip carry and the front carry. We tried out the forward facing carry but Freya was having none of that one (probably not wise to test it out on a teething grumpy baby)!
The most comfortable position for me was having Freya on my hip due to her being the weight she is now, but I can imagine if I’d had the sling from the newborn days, I would have loved to have her snuggled into my chest. She’s 8 months now and very long so carrying her in general is getting harder but I have to be admit the sling made it that bit easier and didn’t seem to have a big impact on my left shoulder which carried the weight of the sling itself.
Overall I really like that the sling goes from 0-24 months or 3.6 kg to 15.9kg. When Freya was born she was actually under the 3.6kg weight due to being 2.5 weeks earlier but in those early days, I wasn’t exactly brave enough to venture out baby wearing and opted for my pushchair instead. I definitely think with baby no 2 (in the future before you think I’m announcing a pregnancy), I would use the sling from the early days as close contact with baby is something I absolutely loved from the early days. I still love it don’t get me wrong, but it’s a lot harder when your baby is nearing 20lb!
