Let’s recap

I’m pumped and ready to up my blogging game in 2017 but before I start writing as usual, I thought I’d look back on 2016 and share some of the highs and lows.

The start of the year wasn’t great for us as the vendor we were purchasing a house off, decided to pull out of the sale. I actually cried when it happened because it was the 3rd house we had started buying and something else had gone wrong. We got some perspective and decided to save some more and just look occasionally for properties in the village we love.

Fast forward to March when I spotted a dream house at the top of our budget that came onto the scene. Immediately I sent it to Bobby who set a viewing up straight away and 48 hours later, our offer was accepted! Ridiculously fast but it felt like fate.

Next the England rugby union team won the Six Nations and we celebrated with a bottle of wine. (yes it was a big deal – do not judge)

A mere week later, Bobby got down on one knee and proposed on Easter Sunday almost 8 years after meeting at college. Cue awwww’s all round please.

2 Months later we booked our wedding for May 2017 which is coming round at insane speed and now it’s finally 2017, I can say we get married this year!

In June we went to Lanzarote for 2 weeks holiday and had the most amazing time. I’ve never been so it was a nice relaxing break in the midst of house buying that we needed.

Whilst on holiday, BREXIT happened…. enough said about that.

But this then led to our house exchange being pushed through and we came back off holiday a week later to the keys for our new home.

It’s now been 6 months in our home and we’ve celebrated out first christmas and new year with friends and family, both of which were amazing.

In those 6 months, both Bobby & I have had promotions at work which has been incredible and has meant that saving for the wedding has been made that much easier.

Blogging wise, I’ve had a great year that’s seen my twitter followers end the year at 3000+, my instagram followers are over 600 (something I thought would never happen) and my DA has increased as well. I’ve tried to ignore numbers in the last few months and just focused on content and photos instead so hopefully this is why I’ve seen such growth.

Going into 2017, I will be getting married in May, hopefully getting to go on an amazing honeymoon (which is yet to be booked) and blogging lots more. I aim to attend more blogging events and meet those bloggers I interact with or even if I haven’t, meet some incredible people. YouTube is something I’ve thought about and toyed with the idea of all year so I’m hoping I just grow a pair (not literally) and actually get on with it but it might have to wait until after the wedding.

If you’ve read my blog in 2016 then thank you so much, and I hope you continue to enjoy reading in 2017 as well.

Love Laura x

Empties: The Holiday Edition

I hate neglecting my blog but having an almost 4 week break recently really gave me a refresh and the much-needed chance to go away for 2 weeks with the fiance.

On June 15th Rob & I jetted off to beautiful Lanzarote for 2 incredible weeks of good food, amazing weather and a well deserved relax from all our recent house buying stresses. I did miss my little blog but got some amazing photos and had some fantastic experiences that have given me some enthusiasm for some new posts.

I’m kicking off this week with the monthly empties post: holiday edition. That is correct peeps, I’m rounding up the products we used on our jollies and what I actually thought about them.

075

Starting from the left, my go to Factor 50 in sunscreen is Garnier Ambre Solaire for Kids. Yup, I use a kids sunscreen because I’m pale and freckly meaning the sun can be my enemy. I have always used Factor 50 and rarely stray much lower if I’m honest. This spray is easy to use and rubs in well into the skin. I hate the sprays that leave you with a white consistency or very obvious marks on the skin and this one does not disappoint. I did notice that after topping it up a few times on one particular sunny afternoon, I did get a slight mark or two but I kind of expect that with white sunscreen and it did rub away easily anyway.

For aftersun one of my favourites is Soltan Moisturising aftersun spray from Boots. This spray offers moisturised skin for up to 12 hours and does what it says on the bottle. I’ve bought this one for a couple of years now and definitely will keep buying it as its non-sticky, non-greasy and doesn’t have a funny smell either. There is normally some great offers on at Boots so you can usually grab these on a bargain offer at the right time of year as well.

Now on to Rob’s sunscreen of choice this year and it was Riemann P20 factor 30 once a day protection. This was a new one for us both this year as neither of us have used it before. The great thing about this spray is that it goes on clear and dries into the skin super quick. I loved that it wasn’t greasy and had virtually no odour to it either. I will definitely keep an eye out for this product on offer on the build up to the next holiday but a bit higher factor for me compared to Rob I think.

Now we turn to body wash, and since we would be going somewhere hot and it was prime time for summer sun, I chose the fruity scent of Original Source Mango body wash. The smell of this wash was incredible and perfect for the sunny weather we were enjoying in Lanzarote. I love original source products as they always smell awesome and this doesn’t disappoint. Definitely purchase this if you are going away, it’s the perfect choice.

Now let’s talk about bug bites. Yes it’s not a nice subject but whilst in Mexico 2 years ago, we discovered the best solution to bug bites in Fast Aid Plus Emulsion. Now we haven’t found it ever again and it probably was only available in Mexico, but it had a great cooling effect on the skin and reduced swelling/redness really quickly, helping to heal the bite much better. If we ever head back to Mexico again, this will be the top of our purchase list whilst out there. The best thing is that it has a long expiration meaning it lasted until this years holiday anyway.

Finally on our hair, we used a shampoo and conditioner from the Schwarzkopf Gliss  Total Repair range. These were both fab and I purchased them from Poundland as a last-minute buy before we travelled. I didn’t want anything huge in size or heavy to put in the case so these are perfect. The bottles are light and the range is great for fighting frizz and flyaway hair; perfect for humid conditions. I will definitely rebuy these in future for holidays as they work perfectly and didn’t mess with my sensitive scalp at all.

Hope you liked my holiday empties but keep your eyes peeled for my holiday blog posts coming soon.

Relationship Goals For 2016: Things To Do With Your Boyfriend

It’s nearly 2016, and like always with the start of a new year, we will each make resolutions. Some of which we will stick to, for a while at least, and others we will most probably give up on relatively quickly.

This year, instead of creating resolutions for yourself, why not come up with a list of relationship goals for you and your partner? It’s easy to slip into a routine of doing the same thing day in, day out when you’re in a relationship. Make things a little more exciting by setting goals for you and your partner to complete throughout the year. In need of a little inspiration? To help you get started with your list, here are a few ideas:

Do more fun things

Spending your time off sat on the sofa watching movies in your pajamas is a complete waste of time. We’ve all been there – entire weekend Netflix binge anyone, but on your time off you should get out and do things. Studies have shown that couples that do different things tend to be happier and have healthier relationships.

Spend your time off doing fun things together. Fill a jar with various activities and each time you have a day off, pick one out. Whatever comes out of the jar, the two of you have to do. (It’s a good idea to label each activity with on of the following; easy to plan or needs organising.)

Whether it’s a trip to the movies or a day out at a theme park, it’s important to get out of the house. The good news is that if money is an issue, online you can get everything from cheap theme park tickets to free entry to certain attractions. This means that no matter how much you have to spend, you can always get out of the house.

Plan to take a trip

If you don’t regularly travel together, make 2016 the year that you change that. Plan to take a trip to somewhere, that you have always wanted to visit. It might take a bit of saving to get there, but it’s worth scrimping for. Traveling as a couple is enriching, it teaches you about each other, as well as other cultures.

At the start of the year, sit down and start planning your trip. Choose a destination and set a date, and then work out how much you’ll need to save. If you want to fulfil your travel plans, it’s essential that you start to get organised as early as possible. (The earlier you start planning, the longer you have to save up.)

Do something for charity

Make 2016 the year when you give something back. While you could raise money alone, doing it with your partner will make the experience, even more, memorable. If there’s a charity that’s close to yours or your partner’s heart, plan to raise some money for it. If you’re stuck for ideas, Cancer Research UK is always a good one, as it helps so many people.

Don’t just do a run for charity, instead, get creative with how you’ll raise the money. Think about the types of things that will push you both out of your comfort zones, and opt to do one of these. Not only will this increase the amount of sponsors that you get, but will also help you to grow as a person. (Stepping out of our comfort zones is important, as it helps us to become stronger and more resilient people.)

How about doing a sponsored sky dive or what about going deep-sea diving with sharks? Perhaps you could attempt to cycle from one destination to another, or maybe you could give an extreme sport a try? Think outside the box and you can come up with an unusual idea for how you and your partner can raise money for charity.

Hopefully, these ideas have inspired you to make 2016 the most amazing year for you and your partner.
