Last week I was invited to The Botanist 1st Birthday Celebration’s in York and when the invite landed in my email inbox, I was excited to go out an enjoy a few drinks. Bob was on baby duty so I asked his mum to come along to the event with me which she kindly accepted.
I’d only actually been to The Botanist twice since it opened; mainly because I’d been pregnant since January and drinking obviously was not an option. I took my mum to a cocktail tasting event earlier in the year and enjoyed mocktails whilst she enjoyed the alcohol. The next time I went was during the day for some training and rather than drinking, I enjoyed their incredible lunch menu.
We were greeted with what seemed like bottomless prosecco as every time a glass started getting low, someone else would top it up.
The evening offered gin tasting and cocktail making and was absolutely lovely. I discovered a gin that I absolutely loved; Brockmans. I’m not a big fan of gin but this is lovely and floral and tastes amazing. My mother in law loved trying all the gins and making a cocktail before the most amazing canapé boards came out for us to enjoy.
There were antipasti boards, whitebait, pretzel breads with hummus and onion skin rings. Everything tasted incredible and helped soak up the alcohol a little.
If you’ve never been to the Botanist then I would 100% recommend it for a drink or for food as on both counts, they offer amazing products and the service is great.
Thank you to Megan and the Botanist for inviting me and hosting such a fantastic evening.
