I’ve done a couple of book reviews on the blog lately and today is no exception. On my daily commute rather than deal with the general public, I prefer to get engrossed in a good book and this time it was the very interesting Demon Road from Derek Landy.
The book follows the very bizarre life of 16-year old Amber as she comes to terms with her strange parents and finding out who they really are inside. I hate to ruin a story for anyone who fancies reading this for themselves so here is a brief overview of what happens to Amber.
- She finds out the world is not what it seems including her parents and herself.
- She ends up driving around in a magical car with someone she doesn’t really know and who has their own secrets.
- She meets some weird and wonderful characters along the way which test her character and strength.
- Her life catches up with her in a fantastic end to the book but leads on to something more.
I would definitely say this is a well written story with some very funny parts in it making you like the characters even more. I wasn’t sure about the book at first especially when it opens with a line about murder. Don’t panic not actual murder straight away but attempted at the very least. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and would happily read another Derek Landy book in future. I hope this review gives you the smallest of tastes to what a great story it is and makes you want to run out and buy it yourself.
