Redecorating is not a task that everyone looks forward to doing. DIY is something that many of us find a bit daunting. After all, not everyone has the time, skills and cash needed to make a good job of redecorating. However, as you will see, with the right mindset and approach all of these perceived issues can actually be overcome.
Look for the easy option
The first thing you need to do is to always look for the easiest way to get the job done. You do not necessarily have to take the same approach as everyone else does. For example, to avoid having to get down on your hands and knees to repaint the skirting every time you redecorate just install some new ogee skirting board instead.
This classic skirting board design blends in well with virtually any style of decor, which makes it a particularly good choice for homeowners. All you need to do is to buy the veneered type, install it and forget about it. Provided you look after it properly, it will never need repainting again.
Consider reworking what you have
Taking what you already own and updating it is a good way to save money. Often, it will also make your life easier. If you are lucky, you may already have what you need, in your shed. For example, you only need a little bit of paint to be able to update a piece of furniture. If it is spare white paint, you can just add a few drops of dye and use it to create a feature wall or something similar.
Don’t be afraid of trying something new
Learning new skills is essential to making decorating easier. So, be prepared to step out of your comfort zone, occasionally. Every time you do so, you will learn something. This is the case even if you do not quite get the results you want. The chances are the next time you will.
Be prepared to borrow what you need
If you want to try to learn a new DIY skill and do not own the right equipment, consider borrowing what you need. Usually, friends and family will be more than happy to help you out. If you are really lucky you will be able to find a tool co-operative or perhaps a woodworking club, in your area. Often they will lend you what you need or only charge a nominal hire rate.
