If you follow me on Twitter, then you will have seen my rugby related tweets recently, and it’s safe to say I am a big Rugby Union fan. Way back in September 2014, Bobby & I decided to make it our mission to attend a Rugby World Cup game this year whilst it was on home turf. We are both England fans but unfortunately the prices for tickets to their games were very high. We decided that we would go to see the reigning champs the All Blacks instead. When we got confirmation that we had been accepted for tickets we booked a night at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle not too far from St James Park where the match was to be held.
Off we trotted to Newcastle and found our way to the amazing Vermont hotel. You know the hotels good when outside is a Ferrari and a Rolls Royce, plus an official RWC 2015 Range rover and an Official All blacks minibus. We checked in and had a little chill before heading into Newcastle prior to the big game. We walked to the city centre where there were some amazing world food stalls and a MasterCard Priceless bus doing face paints and on the spot prizes.
We headed to the fanzone before going to the stadium and getting seated before the game kicked off. Check out our awesome signs we got ready for the game…
The stadium was packed with dedicated New Zealand fans as well as loads of people in support of Tonga. The Haka and Sipi Tau live were incredible (google if you have no idea what I am talking about). Our seats were amazing and we were a mere 6 rows from the pitch; better than we ever expected really. The game was the first professional rugby match that either Bobby or myself had ever been too and what a game to experience. The Tongan’s fought to the end but the All Blacks took the match brilliantly.
If you haven’t been to a game before then I would thoroughly recommend it, we now have our sights firmly set on the 6 nations next year.
Thanks for reading.
So I saw recently that Ocean Finance were running a competition in order to win a dream experience in relation to a Second Time Lucky and was really intrigued to find out some more. I had a look on their website which showed the rules of the competition and the entries so far that had the most votes. I saw a lot of people talking about having to put their wedding off or not getting to go on a trip somewhere special and found it really heartwarming that a lot of people had missed out on special days or chances but now might get the chance to win their dream.
This spurred me to write my own blog post about a Second Time Lucky that I would love to have. My boyfriend and I work incredibly hard in our jobs in order to have a great future and be able to enjoy our life and hopefully start a family one day. Because we work so hard now, we sometimes miss out on things like trips because we are forever thinking “We should be saving this money, not spending!” A lot of people our age wouldn’t mind just spending the money or booking a trip but we are very money conscious right now and have to be strict.
My Second Time Lucky would be to treat my boyfriend to a city break somewhere we haven’t been in Europe (which is pretty much everywhere in Europe haha!) We have both talked about visiting somewhere like Amsterdam, Paris or Rome as we like a bit of history and culture and absolutely LOOOOVE food!!!
If we had the chance to go away somewhere I think it would be an amazing break and time together as we currently both live with our parents so time together is quiet precious. I would love to treat him to a nice hotel, good food and good wine, and also get to experience some good culture and see some sights. If we could go to a hotspot for food and have a few drinks in an amazing bar, we both would be over the moon. It’s also our 7 year anniversary this year after meeting at college at 17 so this would be a lovely way to celebrate it.

What do you think you would do if you could have your Second Time Lucky?
Don’t forget to check out the links above to the Ocean Finance website and enter their competition.
This post is rather late since I actually visited in September 2014 but I only started the blog itself in December and it felt too wintery to blog about travel at the time. Since it’s a slow January I thought I would write about the amazing destination of Mexico.
Bob and I decided to book the holiday way back in February 2014 and had to wait a grueling 7 months until we actually got to experience it. We went into Thomson travel agents one Sunday morning and spur of the moment booked it. We travelled on the amazing new Dreamliner plane which had mood lighting in the cabin as you took off. (Silly me forget to get the camera out quick enough at the time, but here are a couple of pics of it)
We stayed for 14 nights at the beautiful resort of El Dorado Seaside Suites by Karisma in the Riviera Maya. We chose it because it was well known for having good food and also is adults only! It was about 1 hr 30mins from the airport which was a nightmare as customs takes forever to get through but once at the resort we were greeted with a cool towel and a mocktail. The rooms were beautiful and although we didn’t like the positioning of the first room they were quick to move us to one more suited.
The food was amazing and had so much choice. We visited all the restaurants and also indulged in the room service several times. There is a Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, Sandwhicherie and a gourmet pub. The Asian was one of our favourites as the sushi and curry was too die for. The Mexican was beautiful too and very authentic but the Gourmet pub stole the show. We ordered 4 courses on our last night and enjoyed tapas style food. YUM!
As part of the holiday we went on what felt like a trip a day so we could experience as much as possible. Bob took the majority of the photos on his GoPro Hero 3 Black edition and it was worth purchasing as the picture quality was fantastic. I have included some of my naff photos and some of the good ones I have but I’m thinking of doing a follow up post of photography from the holiday soon anyway. The trips we did were Chichen Itza and swimming in a cenote, Xcaret eco park, Contoy Island day trip, swimming with Whale Sharks, Xel-Ha and also Bob did his PADI scuba diving advanced open water qualification out there. There are so many things you can do in Mexico so it’s definitely worth spending 2 weeks there, some of which can be found here.
The holiday was an absolute dream and we are so grateful that we got the chance to go there before we purchase our house and have no pennies. I would thoroughly recommend the El Dorado Seaside Suites and the whole of the Karisma chain as they pride themselves on fantastic service and can certainly say it was oustanding.
Where have you all been that was once in a lifetime?
and Can you recommend anywhere to me for my future travel plans?
