It’s Countdown time!

This year is not only our first Christmas in the home we bought this year, but it’s actually the first Christmas we are waking up together and spending the whole day with one another. You heard me correct, after 8.5 years together we are finally having our first Christmas together.

We are planning to buy our first tree this weekend and have lots of ideas on how to decorate it which is very exciting, as I absolutely love Christmas. I was recently contacted to work together with school locker supplier, Action Storage to decorate a wooden advent calendar in the form of a house. With it being our first Christmas, I loved the idea and was very excited to get started.

I received the calendar in the post and then hopped off to HobbyCraft to purchase what I needed to create my house.

This is what I started with:

This is the supplies I needed:

I started by painting the house with a couple of layers of paint:

And then some more paint because the wood just soaked it all up:

I did some more touches here and there (with my fiance’s help as I got bored several times of literally watching paint dry) before gluing on the gorgeous winter themed wooden toppers. I did originally plan to stamp the numbers on but they didn’t work that well so the idea was scrapped. Instead I purchased some metallic sharpies and hand wrote them on the doors and VOILA!

I know it’s not perfect in some places but actually to say I did this for a couple of hours at the weekend and then on an evening after work, I don’t think it’s been a bad attempt. It now has pride of place on our living room table and is ready to be filled with Advent chocolate.

If you’ve attempted anything like this before then feel free to leave me your links in the comments.

It’s Black Friday at JYSK

Having spent the last few months getting our home in order, it’s safe to say we’ve visited plenty of homeware shops and websites. JYSK is one of those very shops but in the past I’ll admit, I never really bothered with.

The store near me opened a fair few years back and having never needed to go in much, I just never bothered. My mum did mention it and every so often I wandered in and imagined buying bits for my future home and planning it all in my head.

If you don’t know much about the store it opened its first store in Denmark in 1979 and now consists of over 2400 stores in 45 countries. It sells a massive range of products for all rooms in the house as well as Garden furniture and seasonal items like Christmas.

So it’s no surprise they are doing something for Black Friday and are offering savings of up to 70% with over 800 items featuring in the sale.

In other words, check them out and more than likely you will be grabbing a bargain!

Getting Some Home Inspiration

I feel like the last few months since getting our first home has been non-stop thinking “what else do we need for the house?”

It’s great to put a stamp on our own space now though and has made me fall in love with homeware and decorating even more than putting a pinterest page together.

When it comes to entertaining spaces, we are fortunate to have a great living-dining area in our house which makes it great for dinner parties (not that we’ve had any yet) or just having people round for drinks (that we have definitely done). We were fortunate to find a dining table in the end but it did mean spending lots of time searching websites and checking measurements before we settled on the right one.

A great website for dining/furniture for entertaining is Fishpools. They have an incredible selection of dining table sets, individual tables and even bar stools for breakfast bars or home bars if you are lucky to have one. I thought I’d share some of my favourite ones I found when trying to source the right one for us in our new home.

First up the Allegra – I love the sleek look of these chairs and the marble effect table top. It would work perfectly in a modern space with clean lines, white walls and bright colourful art.

I also love the Arles which I think is very country style kitchen or farmhouse. For a cosy kitchen feel, I’d add some fresh flowers and a good china teapot with a cosy on it.

Last up but certainly not least is the Brockton which has to be my favourite on the site. I love the walnut finish on the table and gorgeous comfy chairs. I would normally never choose different coloured chairs or at least would never have thought about it but I love how the website has styled these up. It adds some real elegance to the dining set and would make a great entertaining space.

In terms of their individual dining tables, here is my absolute favourite for pure design concept. It looks absolutely stunning and I wish I had space for the large table.

So if you’re searching for some great home inspiration especially when it comes to your dining table then definitely have a wander over to the website and check them out yourself. There’s a great range and really something for every style of space you might have. I personally love their ranges and it really helped determine what I was looking for in a dining table/entertaining space.
