Time to get Suited & Booted

My first post that showed off some of my wedding planning came to you in the form of flowers and this week I’m bringing you a suit related post.

Now we are just under 7 months away from our wedding (argh) and wedding planning is fully underway. We’ve been doing a few bits and pieces of late and will start attending church soon in preparation for the big day. We’ve also started looking at suits and bridesmaid dresses here and there so when Bobby was offered the chance to try out a suit of his choice from Dobell, we couldn’t resist.

Dobell if you haven’t heard of them before are a formal wear store for men and boys. They are extremely affordable and offer a very extensive range of suits to suit everyone. After browsing the store, Bobby chose to try out the Navy Blue Classic Mens suit; mainly so that the suit could be worn for work as well.

It arrived extremely quickly and was well packaged in a suit bag within a sturdy suitcase style cardboard box. The suit was laid out well-meaning we didn’t need to iron it when opened up. We hung it up for a couple of days to allow any creases to drop before testing it out for wear.

Bobby decided to wear it to work to get a decent day’s wear out of it and really put it to the test.

He got lots of compliments from his colleagues who all thought the suit must have been really pricey. They will be surprised to hear that it retails for £99. What we liked is how well the suit fit. The website offers you the chance to pick the suit jacket and trousers in different measurements and then choose Short, Regular or Long options. This is always a plus for us as Bobby is 6ft 3 and broad in the shoulder so slim fit sizing like a lot of companies do, just isn’t an option. It was also comfortable to wear all day and did not restrict his movement at all proving the great quality once again.

Dobell not only offer a great sizing service but do also offer free delivery and returns which is always a bonus when ordering things online. We may well look to order all the groomsmen suits online depending on whether we find anything different but the quality and fit of this suit was extremely good. Bobby is a massive suit fan anyway as he wears them for work so this one is great as its multi-purpose.

They also do traditional morning suits with tails as well as tuxedo’s, white tie and even dinner jackets. If you are looking for a reasonably priced suit then I would definitely visit Dobell and check out their range.

My Summer dress style tips

The sun seems to be making sporadic appearances of late and it’s been nice to get the legs out and wear some pretty summer dresses for a change. I thought I would take the opportunity to share some of my summer style tips in collaboration with JD Williams who were kind enough to let me pick my choice of dress and sandals to style up for you.

018 019

When choosing my favourite summer dress from their fabulous selection of holiday dresses, I settled on the Lyocell Knee-Length Denim Dress which looked casual and comfy; perfect for summer. My first tip when picking a dress for summer is go for a fabric that is light and loose-fitting. I hate tight outfits and prefer something a little more floaty. Despite being denim, this dress is super light to wear making it easy to move in and comfortable to wear. I also like that the sleeves can be rolled up or down meaning it can be worn with tights even in Winter.

When it comes to women’s sandals, I like lace up ones this season and have several black and gold pairs. I decided on a tan pair of suede lace up’s from Sole Diva which complimented the denim dress perfectly. They are easy to walk in with rubber style sole at the bottom as well. Given the colour, they would go well with most summer outfits including pretty white dresses which I also have in abundance for this years holiday.

Another tip I would always suggest is to have a belt to hand to mix up your outfits. I had a plain suede style brown belt which I added to the dress and gave it another style revamp making it less oversized looking and more of a fitted dress. This would be perfect for a night/meal out with a pair of chunky wedges instead of sandals and would make it look completely different to the daytime look.

Now this is my first fashion based post and I’m pretty darned please with the photography (thanks to my mum) and love the outfit I was allowed to choose as it suits me to a T. Hopefully you liked it and liked my tips so let me know in the comments if you would like to see some more fashion based posts in future.

Hotter Shoes Blogger Event

If you said Hotter Shoes to me a couple of weeks ago, I would have instantly thought comfy shoes for older ladies. They say never judge a book by its cover and this is one of those times. The lovely Jenni from Hotter’s PR & Social Media Team was looking for bloggers to come to an event at the York store which is right on my doorstep. I got in touch and decided it would be great to learn more about the company and brand rather than assume it was never going to be a shop I would buy from.

Last Tuesday I raced from work to the event and got there bang on 6:30pm. Luckily a few other bloggers were still to turn up so it gave me time to grab a (large) glass of Prosecco and browse the store taking some photos. The store was nicely laid out and beautifully fresh in colour making it warm and inviting. The wonderful staff had stayed on to help us bloggers out and get to know more about the company.

The evening started with some nibbles during a presentation from Jenni about the company. The company started as Beaconsfield footwear in 1959 making Slippers. As we all know, slippers are pretty seasonal and if you’re like me, you only wear them in Winter. The company realised this pretty quickly and decided to branch out into more footwear options.

The company stocked their shoes in Tesco, Asda, Makro and Woolworth’s however they were still Beaconsfield footwear at this stage and the Hotter brand had not yet started. By 1982 the company were investing in injection moulding on their shoes and in 1992, they used direct moulding to create a shoe perfectly moulded to the foot.

In 1996 the company launched its first ever catalogue featuring the iconic Dew design in 13 colours. One year later the company invested in a direct moulding machine dubbed the Rolls Royce of shoe making machines and opened a 20 seater call centre at the same time.

Fast forward to 2002 when the company opened their first store in Southport, and a mere year later, a new factory was opened due to the company’s growth. By 2010 the company only had 5 stores open and to date there is now an incredible 75 stores open.

2010 was a busy year for the company as they also decided to launch in the US. They currently have a call centre that seats 120-140 staff servicing US & UK customers across many time zones. By 2014 they branched out again but this time to Germany, even going as far as creating a dedicated website for German customers.

2015 was a huge year when Hotter won the Queens Award for Enterprise!

After the presentation, I definitely felt like I understood the history and also took it all in. It was interesting and kept our attention throughout the 15 minutes. Next up was shoe-trying-on time, which is always amazing. As a shoe lover and owner of many pairs, I loved trying on my favourite shoes. I tried on a gorgeous little leopard print pair as well as the Brierton shoes in chestnut. I was lucky enough to get to choose a pair to take away and review and after falling in love with the Brierton, walked away with them at the end of the evening. I also spent a good 15 minutes chatting to one of the shoe designers who happened to come along to the evening as well. I can’t remember her name which has frustrated me for days now, but she was so lovely and nice to chat to. She even gave me some insight into upcoming trends which was exciting.

One thing I found when going round the store was that I actually wanted to buy loads of the shoes, which I never expected when I first went there. I know the brand pride themselves on their comfort concept which is easy to see and feel when you try the shoes on. I will be honest and say I was pleasantly surprised by the styles I found and will definitely be going there in future for some good, long-lasting shoe options. The ladies shoes come in sizes 3-9 including half sizes and the mens come in sizes 6-12.

If I can say one thing, then it would be to give it a go, speak to the wonderful staff who know their stuff, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I will be recommending these shoes to my friends and family, and definitely shop there myself in future. Check out my gorgeous shoes below, it will make you very jealous and want to run out and buy your own pair!

I hope this has inspired you to check out Hotter if you haven’t already.
